We Filipinos are well known for our hospitality.  Related to this is our tendency to value relationships more than anything else.  We have a word for it: “pakisama.”  We go out of our way to help others in need, until it hurts. More often than not, the help being asked for is financial in nature. This is true especially with relatives. As the funny saying goes, “Money is relative. The more money you got, the more relatives you have.”
